What a utility service study actually establishes

Read the conditions behind the capacity headline before committing to powered land.

Start with the document’s scope

A capacity figure is only useful alongside its definition, the exact site, the issuing party and the study date. Preliminary correspondence, a service study and an executed arrangement answer different questions. Record which one you have. A document described as a study is not, by its title alone, a commitment to deliver power.

Separate feasibility from delivery

Read the conditions next to the conclusion. Network works, customer contributions, equipment, approvals or an executed service agreement may sit between a favourable study and usable capacity. Put each condition against an owner and a dated evidence reference. A conditional conclusion should remain conditional in the investment paper.

Relate service power to the IT requirement

An assumed PUE can help screen utility-service MW against critical IT MW, but it does not establish the facility’s actual design, resilience or usable capacity. Ask the appointed engineer to confirm those boundaries. Keep the original unit and basis visible in every comparison.

Take this checklist into the next meeting

  • Identify the issuing entity, document version, site and scope.
  • Quote the capacity definition and every material condition.
  • Obtain the service arrangements and network-work dependencies.
  • Resolve evidence gaps before the next irreversible payment.

Evidence and assumptions

This guide develops the supplied buyer-side research framework. It makes no site-specific capacity claim. Obtain current utility documents, manufacturer specifications and appointed professional advice for the actual project. Any numerical examples are worked examples, not project data.
